Independent journalist Keith Thompson has written articles about parenting and education, health and fitness, criminal justice and popular culture, gender issues and environmental health. Keith’s 2006 book Leaving the Left (read excerpts here) is a memoir of the turning points in his growing disenchantment with, and eventual break from, today’s intolerant and philosophically misguided left. “A president named Reagan was pivotal to my second thoughts about liberalism,” Keith recalls. “When he came to office, top tax rates in the United States were in the 70 percent range; Jimmy Carter’s misery index (unemployment rate combined with inflation rate) was off the charts. Reagan argued that slashing the top rate to 28 percent would ignite an economic boom. He was spectacularly right about that, and about the inconvenient fact that socialism has failed everywhere and time it has been tried.” America’s Founding showed the world a remarkable new premise for a nation, thanks to the most magnificent governing documents ever ratified by any nation, the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution. That Founding is continuously renewed through the dedication of individuals who view themselves not as victims of life or clients of the state but as self-governing, personally responsible, free-enterprising citizens. Sane Nation exists wherever freedom loving people care enough to make it real. Because as Ronald Reagan said so well: "Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. We didn't pass it to our children in the bloodstream. It must be fought for, protected, and handed on for them to do the same, or one day we will spend our sunset years telling our children and our children's children what it was once like in the United States where men were free."
